Opening a Program in Microsoft Project

To open an exported program file in Microsoft Project© follow the steps below:

1.Start Microsoft Project

2.Select File|Open from the main menu

3.Drop the "Files of Type" drop down box and select the "CSV (*.csv)" option which is the last file type in the list.

4.Navigate to the export directory using the "up one level button" until you arrive at (C:) then down to correct folder.

5.Select the .CSV file you wish to import. The names of the files exported from Cost Monitor are as follows:

 

 

6.Click the "Open" button - you will be presented with the "Import Format" dialog. The following is for first time imports you may skip to Step 13 if you have already imported a file.

6.1.Click the "New Map" button

6.2.Type a name for the Map e.g. "CM Import"

6.3.Select "Tasks" in the "Data to import/export" radio button set

6.4.Select the "Task Mapping" tab

6.5.The list "To: Microsoft Project Field" should match "From: Text File Field"

6.6.Click OK and you will return to the "Import Dialog"

7.Make sure your map name is highlighted in the list and click the "Open" button.

Hey presto! A Microsoft Project file has been created. Save the Project as and where you wish and start customising. E.g. right click on the Gantt chart and select Bar Styles from the pop-up menu. Select the "text" tab at the bottom. In the "Right" drop down select the "Notes" field and click OK. The item descriptions will appear to the right side of the item bar.
