Due to the large number of submissions and diverse range of users with varying technical skills the main criteria for both the print and electronic versions of the application was that it be easy to use and even easier to process. In partnership with Hypersphere, meta created a desktop application which collated a prescribed application form and provided an easy means of application submission to the agency.
The application is deployed initially as a standalone desktop application. In this configuration, the application uses the Firebird embedded server which provides exclusive access to the distributed database. By simply changing preference settings, however, the application will connect to and run against the full Firebird server thus allowing multi-user access in a client-server setup.
